3rd Grade -Wayne Theibaud

3rd graders learned about the artist Wayne Thiebaud. Wayne Thiebaud is famous for pastry paintings of cakes and pies. Students explored his artworks to see the texture and exaggerated colors used in his paintings. Students learned to draw ellipse, and how to make the cake look 3D. We decided to take a slice out which gives us the glimpse at the numbers of layers and flavors of the cake. Students learned about value, tints and shade. They also learned blending techniques with oils pastel which is one of the important art skills. Students were given choices to use complementary colors scheme to make their cake look special!!

Our art curriculum is based  on exploration in arts and provides opportunity for students to express and explore with wide range of materials through drawing, painting, working with clay, construction, fabric and craft materials .  Art lessons and projects are developed to demonstrate the understanding of how to use elements of art( line, space, shape and form, colors, texture) and principles of art(Balance, emphasis, movement, proportion, rhythm, unity, and variety). Each grade level will have experience working with a variety of materials and  explore different genre like portraits, landscapes, still life, cityscapes, cartoon, abstract etc., Each grade will be introduced to art history and  learn about the lives and work of masters and contemporary artists and create a master piece inspired by famous  painting from art history.
