2nd grade-Heather Galler inspired Folk art painting

This project was based on the art of Folk artist, Heather Galler. Students learned about the element of art, line and principles of design, pattern. Students understand the difference between folk artist( folk art) and fine artist( realistic art). 2nd graders designed their cup using different lines and patterns following the folk art style. We even added some marshmallows to get in to the winter spirit. YUMMY!!

Our art curriculum is based  on exploration in arts and provides opportunity for students to express and explore with wide range of materials through drawing, painting, working with clay, construction, fabric and craft materials .  Art lessons and projects are developed to demonstrate the understanding of how to use elements of art( line, space, shape and form, colors, texture) and principles of art(Balance, emphasis, movement, proportion, rhythm, unity, and variety). Each grade level will have experience working with a variety of materials and  explore different genre like portraits, landscapes, still life, cityscapes, cartoon, abstract etc., Each grade will be introduced to art history and  learn about the lives and work of masters and contemporary artists and create a master piece inspired by famous  painting from art history.
